Eligibility Requirements for Arts - Information Technology

G.C.E. (Advanced Level) Requirements:

• Minimum of Ordinary Passes (S) in any three subjects from the Arts Stream
• Subject selection must comply with conditions specified in:
  • Section 2.2.1.1 of the Students Handbook

Additional Requirement:

• Credit Pass (C) in Mathematics at the:
  • G.C.E. (Ordinary Level) Examination

Document Submission:

• Candidates must submit:
  • A duly certified copy of the original:
    • G.C.E. (Ordinary Level) Examination certificate
  • Confirming the required grades in Mathematics

• Failure to submit the required certificate will result in:
  • Automatic rejection of the application for:
    • Arts - Information Technology course

Basket 01 – Social Sciences / Applied Social Studies:

1. Economics
2. Geography
3. History
4. Home Economics
5. Agricultural Science / Mathematics / Combined Mathematics

9. Political Science
10. Logic & Scientific Method
11. One subject from Technological Subjects:
    • Civil Technology
    • Electrical, Electronic and Information Technology
    • Agro Technology
    • Mechanical Technology
    • Food Technology
    • Bio-Resource Technology

Guidance for selection of subjects from Basket 01:

• Students should select at least one subject from this basket.
• Students can also select all three subjects only from basket 01.

There are three exceptions to this rule:

1. Students selecting three National Languages — Sinhala, Tamil, and English — from basket 04 need not select any subject from basket 01.
2. Students selecting a combination of National and Classical Languages need not select any subject from basket 01.
   • National Languages: Sinhala, Tamil, English
   • Classical Languages: Arabic, Pali, Sanskrit
   • Example: Students can select three subjects like Sinhala, Pali, and Sanskrit. These students need not select any subject from basket 01.
   • However, no candidate can select three classical languages as their three subjects. A maximum of two classical languages is allowed.
3. Students selecting two languages from basket 04 and the third subject from Religions and Civilizations (basket 02) or Aesthetic Studies (basket 03) need not select any subject from basket 01.

Basket 02 – Religions and Civilizations:

1. Buddhism
2. Hinduism
3. Christianity
4. Islam
5. Buddhist Civilization
6. Hindu Civilization
7. Christian Civilization
8. Islamic Civilization
9. Greek & Roman Civilization

Guidance for selection of subjects from Basket 02:

• A candidate can select a maximum of two subjects from this basket.
• However, if a religion (e.g., Buddhism) is selected, the related civilization (e.g., Buddhist Civilization) cannot be selected as another subject.

Basket 03 – Aesthetic Studies:

Aesthetic subjects consist of four areas:

1. Art
2. Dancing
3. Music
4. Drama & Theatre

Further breakdown:

• Art
• Dancing – Sinhala, Baratha
• Music – Oriental, Carnatic, Western
• Drama & Theatre – Sinhala, Tamil, English

Guidance for selection of subjects from Basket 03:

• Students can select two subjects out of the four areas.
• However, no student can select two subjects from the same subject area.

The language basket has three areas:

• National Languages
  • Sinhala
  • Tamil

• Classical Languages
  • Arabic
  • Pali
  • Sanskrit
• Foreign Languages
  • Chinese
  • French
  • German
  • Hindi
  • Japanese
  • Malay
  • Russian
  • Korean

Guidance for selection of subjects from Basket 04:

• Students are allowed to select a maximum of two subjects from this basket.
  • Example: A student can select Chinese and French, and the third subject from another basket.
• However, exemptions apply as already mentioned under Basket 01 guidance.
