Established in September 2002, the University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC) emerged from the merger of The Institute of Computer Technology and The Department of Computer Science at the University of Colombo. As Sri Lanka's premier institution for computing education, UCSC conducts research in diverse fields like Natural Language Processing, Human-Computer Interfaces, Image Processing, Cryptographic Systems, Multimedia and Virtual Reality, Intelligent Agent Systems, Pattern Recognition, Distributed Systems, Information Retrieval, Data Mining, Process Broker Modeling Systems, Web-Based Business Services, Multimedia Database Systems, e-Learning, Strategic IT Management, IT Policy, and Multi-Database Systems. UCSC's mission is to prepare students for careers in ICT, including Software Development, Systems Analysis, Network and Database Administration, Web Development, IT Management, IT Strategic Planning, and IT Policy Making.
